Masks, air tubes, filters and headgear have a limited life span and must be replaced from time to time. CPAP devices are portable but care should be taken to ensure that sufficient replacement parts are always available to help the machine function in a normal way at any time. CPAP masks get loose after continual use and ill fitting masks cause obvious problems in the therapy. The mask should therefore be replaced after every 3 months. CPAP headgear helps to connect the mask securely to the head and the frequency of replacement should be between 3 to 6 months. Air tubes attaching to the CPAP machines, that get visibly dirty or torn out must also be replaced once every six months.
Also, it is necessary to change or clean the CPAP filters to keep them hygienic and flawless. Basically there are two types of filters - disposable filters which should be replaced on a regular basis and non-disposable filters, (also known as pollen filters) which can be washed and reused. There are separate CPAP mask accessories designed for each mask type and model.
