We all want relief from a noisy PAP device.
Here’s how to quiet your PAP device quickly :
- Make sure your water chamber is closed completely and assembled correctly before using. If there still is noise (i.e. whistling, thumping, etc.) from the water chamber, consider changing it completely.
- Make sure there are no holes in your tubing by blocking off one end of the tubing, turning on your unit and run your hand along the tube to “feel” for any leaking. If leaking persists, change the tube to keep your nights quiet.
- Make sure your filter in your CPAP is new or clean or there may be “funny” noises coming from your PAP.
- If your mask is older than 9 to 12 months, consider changing it completely due to worn out parts and softening silicone, which all create unwanted noise.
A possible secret weapon against PAP noise is a little known accessory that could be all you need to restore peaceful nights. Find it here.
Could there be underlying reasons for PAP noise?
Another method is to take you PAP device to a qualified vendor to have the unit assessed. The warranty might be required to change out your PAP (if there is a malfunction) and solve everything. Eliminate every angle by paying a visit to your vendor. Their daily exposure to PAP units could also solve your PAP noise. It’s worth a try.
New disinfection units may also be of value by “killing” mold, bacteria, etc. and clearing out the possible buildup inside the PAP electrical space. Consider this option as well.
Lastly, you might be qualified to replace your entire PAP system every five years, per Ontario ADP guidelines. Check with your vendor and see if you qualify.
