No more CPAP carry-on? CPAPClinic investigates Air Canada.</strong></strong>
If you rely on a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine for sleep apnea therapy, you might be wondering how to travel with your device, especially when flying. Air Canada has specific rules and guidelines for passengers traveling with CPAP machines. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you understand what you need to do to take your CPAP on an Air Canada flight.
The ongoing effort of flights changing their rules is now placing new restrictions on carry-on items. However, the most-up-to date posting on the Air Canada Website still states:
The Rule
- Mobility aid (e.g. braces, cane, crutches, walker, communication device*) or other special need item,
- Container carrying life sustaining items,
- Medication in its original, labelled container,
- Battery-powered medical equipment (such as CPAP and sleep apnea devices) and Personal Oxygen Concentrators,

Obviously a pleasant, impressive design and convenient way to travel. It looks that will fit under the seat.
The site states “battery powered medical equip”. If my CPAP is not battery powered, is it no longer exempt from the carry-on limits?
Please call Air Canada for clarification. Here is the number:1 (888) 247-2262
